Home Portable Air Conditioner: Haier CPRB07XC7 7,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control

Product Description
With a cooling capacity of 7,000 BTUs, this portable air conditioner helps maintain a comfortable living space during the hot and muggy summer months. The unit's simple-to-use electronic controls include a convenient 24-hour on/off timer--great for cooling the living room right before arriving home from work or for keeping the bedroom at a perfect sleeping temperature then turning off on its own in the morning. Choose from three cool settings and three fan speeds. A handy remote control comes included for changing the settings from across the room.

The A/C unit also offers a dehumidification mode that removes excess moisture from the air, which helps prevent mold from growing on surfaces inside the home. Other highlights include an auto-evaporation function that allows for continuous use without the need to remove collected water, an EnviroClean coil that prevents oxidation and rust, and an ultra-compact size for convenient transport from room to room.

Furthermore, the included window exhaust kit makes it possible to exhaust air out a window--no need to install a vent. The air conditioner measures approximately 17-8/9 by 13 by 24-2/5 inches.

5-Star Customer Review
"I'm coming up on the second season of hard use. I have it in the bedroom and at night this thing will chill you out. During the day (I work nights) we get full sun and it still keeps you about 73 deg. If temps outside reach 90+ it'll keep you about 75. I use it in conjuction with old central air unit that will keep downstairs nice but once you get above the first floor good luck. This runs almost 24 hours a day during 7 months and all you have to do is vacuum the back (cooling fins) and vacuum the front filter (slides out). You never have to drain (I do after winter sets in). I liked ours so much I bought a second for the 3rd floor. As far as noise...you know it's there but like anything else you get used to it and can tune it out. The only bad thing about this is I think the portables are a little more than the window units and don't cool as much but they aren't "portable" and can be rolled into a closet or extra room. The set-up on these is considerably easier also: open window, add insert, duct tape insert into window and you're ready to rock. Another bad is that if you loose the remote or the batteries go (over 2yrs and still good) you can't control the unit without it (temp, fan speed, mode, timer)."

5-Star Review
"This AC unit is amazing. Can cool a 20x25 room in about 30 minutes.
the dehimidifier setting is amazing, in the sense that it really does dry the air. it also has 3 fan speed settings, and digital temperature control.
definitely worth the $209 on google, or $330 (i paid) at WalMart. Use ship to store at Walmart so you don't have to pay for shipping like here on Amazon.com"

5-Star Customer Review
"I use this in my bedroom. It gets really hot, especially in the summer, and I also have a lot of electronic equipment(av receiver, Xbox 360, PS3, LCD tv, some halogen lamps, etc.) and to top that all off I am really hot natured. So I needed something to keep the room cool. This thing does it effortlessly. The temp. in my room used to climb up to 75ºF, now with the SoleusAir it stays at around 66-68ºF, just how I like it. On a side note, my central A/C went out last summer and it got up to 83ºF in my house, but the SoleusAir kept it at a cool 68ºF in my room. So you can count on it even under the most demanding loads. It also has a built-in heater as well and it heats as well as it cools. So this is really an all-in-one unit. The only downside(along with any other portable a/c unit) is that you must run 2 hoses(one exhaust, one intake) to a window. It comes with a window installation kit, but I live near a busy street so I can sometimes hear outside noise... but it's not too bad."

"This a/c unit works pretty well. I'm in a space about 13' by 35' which is almost twice the size that this was designed to cool. I dont have much to base this review off of being that this is my first portable a/c (beats using a fan hands down). Other than it taking about 10-15 mins for the cooling element to disperse the coolest air emitted, it works as indicated.I havent had much time to play with the programming features or heater. This was a quick pick-up at home depot for $600. If anyone has any input or a better portable model to recommend in the same general price range, please do so. thanks"

4-Star Customer Review
"We bought this unit to cool a computer server room, and it's been very effective.
It's been in continuous operation there for three years and it still blows just as cold as it ever did with temps never above 75 even in 100+ heat.
Granted this unit will not cool down an entire house, but for one small to medium room at a time it's just fine.
Be prepared for allowing for drainage though. Over a two day weekend with 30-40% humidity, this unit puts out about 5 gallons of condensation water, so either arrange for drainage, or expect to swap the tray frequently. The tray is small and kind of a pain when it's full so keep a mop handy.

I also have to second what others have said about noise. When the compressor kicks in it does get fairly loud, so it might not be the best thing for the babys room.

Bottom line, it's not without faults but it's worth the money and it'll last forever."

A Review
"I have two of the Haier 12,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioners, each with a heater and three speeds. Have been using them for three seasons and really like them. It takes less than 15 minutes to snap hoses on connectors, place in window, add foam strip to prevent air & bugs from coming in. No heavy lifting! I suggest putting some no odor silicone spray [food grade from Amazon or Grainger Industrial Supply] or Armor All which has some silicone in it, on the parts that snap together. It makes it easier next season to put on and remove the hoses too. Also, run a bead of silicone sealant around the tiny space between the hose connector that fits into window adapter. No air or bugs can get in that way. I'm writing almost everything that isn't in the owner's manual.

Fortunately there are two collapsible 5 ft (1.5 M) tubes/hoses--one for air intake and one for heat & humidity exhaust. Note: one tube portable ac units are much less efficient than this Haier and draw hot, outside air in thru cracks or openings somewhere in your home or apartment. They also take longer to cool than this two hose ac. Haier did it right with this product. One improvement needed is a 24 hour timer instead of the 12 hr one at present.

If it is very humid often (59% INside!) this Haier unit may occasionally require draining from a plug in the back near the bottom into a flat pan. I usually wheel the unit on its easily movable casters to the top of stairs; then, put a pan on the next step down; untwist the drain plug and let the water fill the pan. Otherwise, you need to use a flat, two inch high pan to collect the water. Although we have 88%+ humidity here in the Northeast, my draining of the water has been usually limited to at the end of the season. Some humidity does blow out the exhaust hose. One thing: the window adapter fits windows up to 36 inches. One of my windows is 38" which means I have to fill in the extra space with cardboard or foam. The D.I.Y.'er might get some longer plastic, heat-bend it and make it fit better. We have double-hung windows (lift up &/or pull top one down) with screens & storm windows (insulates somewhat in winter). I set the window adapter with snap-on/off hoses to blow through the screen. It adds some security as the storm window is locked in place above the screen opening. You should put a bolt locking device (see locksmith or hardware store) above or beside the opening to prevent a thief from opening your window from the outside. It should be instantly openable in case of fire and need to escape.

Don't expect a portable AC to do as well as an in the window or wall unit. 12,000 btu portable AC = about 8,000 btu in a window/wall Air Conditioner (by experience). And, it will not get as cold. Although I measured the temperature (digitally) coming out of the unit at 61 degrees F (16 degrees C) it will not make the air in the room as cold as a regular air conditioner. The heater setting for the cooler or cold winter isn't worth the money. Better is a $20.00 ceramic heater with fan from one of the stores or Amazon. I don't use the built-in heater as it doesn't produce much heat and is noisier than the ceramic one. The unit has a setting to use alone as a dehumidifier, However, a separate 40+ pint (19+ liter) a day dehumidifier is a better choice. I use one of those in our basement with a 15 foot garden hose attached to the drain plug. Without a dehumidifier things get mildew, smelly and moldy with 70% humidity. A word to the wise!

If you live in some dry areas of the country, a "Swamp Cooler" (love that name) is the item for you. It cools by evaporation of water and adds the humidity to the air. Others may prefer a central air conditioner with the addition of an in-room humidifier for those desert areas of the country. Remember that a humidifier in the winter (used October thru May, in Northeast USA) prevents dry & cracked skin, cracked wooden furniture, needless coughing. And, if you get a cold/flu or pneumonia, it makes it much easier on your lungs, pain, energy [coughing lowers energy], let alone skin. A humidifier even helps keep a piano in tune longer. Add a air purifier with fan & filter for best results. Those ozone units are bad for your health; but, that is another review to write! The Haier remote works fine, although its buttons aren't clearly labeled as to what each does. Save your owner's manual in a zip bag. At the end of the season remove the hoses and cover your Haier with a large plastic bag to keep the dust off/out. Hope that helps you."

    * Tankless - self-evaporation feature to remove collected condensate water.

5-Star Review
"I have bought two of these units for my work, and they are currently pumping away full blast in the hot New York summer. They are most likely close to their rated BTU/hr (10,000 for the older ones, 12k for the current model). They are keeping close to 2,000 square feet (with 14' ceilings) cool as I write this.

On their third summer of use, I really have nothing bad to say about these units, so here is the good stuff:

*The remote is RF, so it works through walls, and snaps nicely on the top of the unit.
*Powerful cooling, unlike a lot of other portable units that don't even come close to their rating.
*Dual duct system might seem awkward, but using fresh air across the condenser coil improves efficiency and power.
*Condensate is vented through the exhaust, unless you turn on de-humidify mode, in which case you can hook up a hose or empty the tank.
*Options of HAF/Charcoal filter which is easy to install.
*Solid Japanese construction.
*Really good quality hoses that hold their shape when you bend them.
*Nice PVC window mount system with grates and caps included.

In the city these ran around $600-$700, they are currently $449 direct from Toyotomi.

Would definitely recommend as the best portable AC after a lot of research."

5-Star Review
The main person you call for support was extremely rude with me, when I explained that the remote I got didn't work. All he said was a "tech guy" would call later. When I called back several hours later, he simply hung up on me. Right after that, the technician finally called to gather the data necessary to send me a working remote.

I cannot review the function of the unit, because the remote controls everything. All I can report is that this unit is beautifully made, the finish is similar to a nice refrigerator. The window kit is also extremely easy to use. I think this unit will last a very long time, it is very heavy and made of quality components.

5-Star Review
"Living in a condo and presently not having the funds to install central, a portable was my only option and with 100 degree heat daily this summer I finally broke and bought one.

Like the last reviewer, I also researched thoroughly before purchasing. However, I disagree with many of the reviewer's complaints.

1) The exhaust hose is a breeze to install and probably took me no more than a couple of minutes. I even had to cut mine down to size and it was not an issue.

2) I have honeycomb blinds on the window and the unit does not interfere in the least, so I am not sure why his are "rendered useless" by the a.c. unit.

3) Perhaps he is a very light sleeper, because I have mine running right this very minute on the highest mode and it is still "library quiet" in my opinion. My window fan makes at least 10x more noise than this machine.

4) Nearly all operational displays are on the remote, but the unit also comes with a remote holder on the back for easy storage. If you put it in it's place, you won't lose it. I love the sleekness of this product and am happy that it does not have a bunch of number and digital displays on the front. They designed this unit to blend in as seamlessly as possible with the indoor environment, and I appreciate that.

I paid full price for my unit and would do it again in a heartbeat. I have the 10,000 BTU unit and am using it to cool off a fairly large area which includes a kitchen, living room, and dinette area...probably some 450 to 500 square feet. It cools like a champ! This a.c. was worth every penny and I am a very satisfied customer."

Customer Review
"Plus:

The unit cools well. It is small and easy to move.

Minus:

The dehumidifier is fairly noisy and it runs when the unit is in dehumidifier mode or in air conditioner mode. The compressor (which only runs in air conditioning mode) is very quiet as is the fan. I would not use this unit in a bedroom.

Installing the exhaust hose was a bit difficult as the hose did not have any end coverings and was a tight fit into the widow and air conditioner connectors.

The window slider kit is easy to install but the height is too small. The slider is only a little bit bigger that the opening for the window exhaust adapter. With the adapter in the slider does not sit on the bottom of the window frame. In my window there is a half-inch gap between the bottom of the slider and the bottom of the window frame that has to be filled in.

BTW, the instructions for removing the unit from the packaging material and box require you to destroy both so there isn't any way to repack the unit if you need to ship it back."

5-Star Customer Review
I purchased this air conditioner (WA-1220M) three years ago and I can honestly say that it is the best purchase that I have made. The unit does wonders year-round.

I live in an apartment in northern MN, less than a mile from Lake Superior. The summer temperatures do not typically exceed the mid-80's to low 90's, but when you add high humidity, it feels much hotter than the actual temperature. This unit does an AWESOME job at dehumidifying and it also cools my place to a comfortable temperature. It also has fan settings that I use year-round.

Unlike a previous rater, I have no problems with the window seal (I even have extra length of the "foam" that they include).

The drain for the dehumidifier does use a flexible plastic tube and, while it may not be *ideal*, I find that it works well. (I elevate my unit a couple of inches and have it continuously drain into a large basin that I can then empty).

Although this unit is technically a portable unit, it is rather heavy. This is not a problem for me because I do not have to carry it up/down stairs on a regular basis - the wheels help me move it from one location to another if I choose to switch things up, but I typically just keep it in my bedroom and find that it works well.

BOTTOM LINE: This product exceeded my expectations. Not only does it cool my apartment, it also dehumidifies amazingly!! It also has a fan that can be used year-round and an air filter that helps clean the air in my apartment.

"This unit is easy to use and easy to move around. It provides plenty of cold air. I would recommend this product to anyone that needs a portable air conditioner."

"this air conditioner has one filter which is easily removed for cleaning purposes, but the intake filter is completely hidden and cleaning it entails disassembling the unit, removing the case, just to access the filters. What a nightmare."
